Alexander Acosta Named Next Secretary of Labor
Law School Dean Nominated by President Trump to Serve in Cabinet-Level Post

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Insured Retirement Institute (IRI) today issued a statement from IRI President and CEO Cathy Weatherford in response to the nomination of Alexander Acosta for Secretary of Labor.

“The Insured Retirement Institute congratulates Alexander Acosta on his nomination to be the next Secretary of Labor.  As Secretary, he will have the opportunity to pursue common sense policies to help American retirement savers prepare for their retirement years.  Many factors, including the decline of traditional pension plans and rising health care costs, have made attaining a financially secure retirement more challenging for Americans.  To address these challenges, the IRI has and will continue to advocate for retirement policy solutions designed to help American workers ensure they have adequate and sustainable retirement income.  A number of these policies fall directly under the jurisdiction of the Department of Labor, including measures to improve Americans’ understanding of their retirement plan options and increasing access to retirement income that cannot be outlived.  We welcome the opportunity to meet with Mr. Acosta following his confirmation.  Additional, we look forward to discussing our retirement security policy solutions with him, and finding areas where we can work collaboratively to help Americans achieve a financially secure and dignified retirement.”
