NAVA intends to work with the new Administration and Congress to assist with efforts to reform financial regulation and oversight.

President-Elect Barack Obama has pledged to reform America's system of financial regulation, noting in a speech on January 8, 2009, that the regulatory framework must be updated "so we can better withstand financial shocks and better protect consumers, investors, and businesses from the reckless greed and risk-taking that must never endanger our prosperity again."

Congress has announced plans to hold a series of hearings on various financial issues, including the regulation of insurance companies and insurance products.

NAVA and its members understand the vital importance of maintaining the trust and confidence of Americans who need investment choices that will help them save for and live securely in retirement, including investments that can guarantee lifetime income.  NAVA will offer its assistance to the Administration, Congress and federal regulators as they review the current regulatory structure and consider changes that will help protect the public and return the country to economic growth.
